Last updated: September 4, 2026
These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of kollel.com, related pages (including IAJS academic pages), any FIATS website or donation page, and any content, forms, emails, or services we provide through those sites (together, the “Sites”).
By visiting the Sites, submitting a form, making a donation, registering for an event, or subscribing to emails, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Sites.
1. Who we are
Kollel Toronto – Institute for Advanced Judaic Studies (IAJS)
515 Coldstream Avenue
Toronto, Ontario, Canada M6B 2K7
Tel: 416-789-1853
Email: office@kollel.com / info@kollel.com
IAJS is the academic arm of Kollel Toronto (historically known as Kollel Avreichim / Institute for Advanced Talmudic Study).
Friends of Institute For Advanced Talmudic Studies (FIATS) is a supporting / friends organization that helps raise funds and awareness for the Institute and its Torah-learning mission.
In these Terms, “we,” “us,” and “our” means Kollel Toronto / IAJS and FIATS, as applicable.
2. Informal information only
Content on the Sites — including zmanim, calendars, shiur materials, articles, PDFs, videos, halacha notes, and event notices — is provided as a community and educational resource.
It is not a substitute for:
- asking your own Rav or posek
- official IAJS academic counselling or the Academic Calendar
- professional legal, tax, medical, or financial advice
Zmanim and schedules can change. Confirm times with the posted notices at the Kollel or with the office before relying on them for davening, a fast, or a deadline.
If a page conflicts with a ruling of the Roshei Kollel, your Rav, or an official printed notice, the ruling or official notice controls.
3. Eligibility and acceptable use
The Sites are intended for a general adult audience and for members of the community who wish to learn about, support, or participate in our programs.
You agree not to:
- use the Sites for any unlawful purpose
- attempt to gain unauthorized access to servers, accounts, or student/donor records
- scrape, harvest, or bulk-collect email addresses or other personal data
- upload malware or interfere with the Sites
- impersonate the Kollel, FIATS, a Rav, or another person
- post or transmit content that is defamatory, harassing, or that we reasonably consider inappropriate for a Torah institution
- use our names, logos, or letterhead without written permission
- republish paid or restricted learning materials as if they were your own
We may block access, remove content, or refuse a donation or registration if we believe these Terms are being broken.
4. Intellectual property
Unless a page says otherwise, the Sites and their content (text, design, logos, photos, audio, video, PDFs, and compilations) are owned by us or used with permission.
You may:
- view and print pages for personal, non-commercial use
- share a public link to a page
- use short quotations with clear attribution to Kollel Toronto / IAJS or FIATS
You may not, without prior written consent:
- copy substantial portions of shiurim, seforim, or publications for republication
- use our name or logo to imply endorsement
- sell or commercially reuse our materials
Third-party materials (for example, citations from classic seforim, or embedded videos) remain the property of their owners.
Student or faculty work posted with permission remains subject to any notice on that page.
5. Donations
Donations made through the Sites are voluntary gifts in support of the Institute, FIATS, or a stated campaign.
Please note:
- Designate a fund only if the form offers that option. Unrestricted gifts may be used where the organization determines the need is greatest, consistent with charity law and the campaign description.
- If a campaign is oversubscribed or cannot proceed as described, we may apply the gift to a closely related purpose or contact you.
- Official Canadian donation receipts are issued only by the registered Canadian charity that actually receives the gift, for eligible amounts, in accordance with CRA rules.
- U.S. tax acknowledgments, if any, are issued only by the U.S. organization that actually receives the gift, in accordance with IRS rules. Confirm which entity is receiving your gift before you give.
- A receipt or acknowledgment is not tax advice. Speak to your accountant about deductibility.
- We may decline a gift (for example, if the source or conditions are inconsistent with our mission or the law).
- Card and bank details are processed by third-party payment providers. Those providers’ terms also apply.
Recurring gifts continue until you cancel them through the method described on the donation page or by contacting the office.
Refunds are not routinely available for completed charitable gifts. If you believe a payment was made in error, contact office@kollel.com promptly. We will review the request in good faith and in line with payment-processor and charity rules.
6. Events, dinners, and sponsorships
Event listings, prices, honourees, and benefits may change. Registration is confirmed only when we accept it and (if a fee applies) payment clears.
We may cancel, postpone, or move an event (including for weather, security, a communal situation, or insufficient registration). If we cancel, we will explain the options then available, which may include a refund of a paid ticket, a credit, or applying the amount as a donation if you agree.
Photos and recordings may be taken at public events. If you do not want to appear in published photos, tell the organizers in advance or when you arrive so we can take reasonable steps.
Sponsorship benefits are as described in the event materials. We are not responsible for a sponsor’s own products or claims.
7. Programs, shiurim, and academic services
Community shiurim and drop-in learning are offered as described on the Sites and may be changed or cancelled.
Admission to IAJS degree or Kollel programs, housing, fees, credits, and student conduct are governed by the IAJS Academic Calendar and internal policies, not by marketing text on the Sites. If there is a conflict, the Academic Calendar and written admission materials control.
We do not guarantee admission, a degree, semicha, employment, or a particular learning outcome.
8. Emails and communications
If you subscribe or otherwise consent, or if the law allows implied consent, we may email you updates, zmanim and schedule notices, event invitations, and fundraising appeals. See our Privacy Policy and Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).
You may unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time. We may still send transactional messages (receipts, registration confirmations, replies to a question you asked).
9. User submissions
If you send stories, photos, Divrei Torah, testimonials, or other material (“Submissions”), you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free right to use, edit, and publish them in print, email, and online in connection with the Kollel / IAJS / FIATS, unless you tell us in writing that the item is private.
You confirm that you have the right to send the Submission and that it does not infringe someone else’s rights.
We are not obliged to use or keep any Submission.
10. Third-party sites and tools
The Sites may link to payment processors, video hosts, maps, social media, or other organizations. Those sites have their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for their content or practices.
Online payments are also subject to the processor’s terms.
11. No warranties
The Sites and all content are provided “as is” and “as available.”
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, uninterrupted access, fitness for a particular purpose, and that the Sites will be error-free or free of harmful code.
Halacha, zmanim, and community notices can contain mistakes. Verify anything that matters with a competent Rav or the office.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by Ontario and Canadian law (and, for FIATS activity, applicable U.S. law):
- we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost donations data, lost profits, or lost opportunity, arising from your use of the Sites or reliance on content
- our total liability for any claim relating to the Sites is limited to the greater of CAD $100 or the amount you paid us (if any) for the specific paid item giving rise to the claim in the three months before the claim
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law (including liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence where such an exclusion is forbidden).
13. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Kollel Toronto / IAJS, FIATS, and their rabbonim, directors, officers, employees, and volunteers from claims, losses, and reasonable legal costs arising from your misuse of the Sites, your Submissions, or your breach of these Terms.
14. Privacy
Personal information is handled as described in our Privacy Policy. Please read it before you donate, subscribe, or submit a form.
15. Changes
We may update these Terms at any time. The “Last updated” date will change. Continued use of the Sites after a change means you accept the revised Terms. For a material change that affects a paid registration already accepted, we will honour the terms that applied at the time of that registration unless the law requires otherwise.
16. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the laws of Canada that apply there, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
You agree that the courts of Ontario (sitting in Toronto) have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes arising from the Sites or these Terms, except that FIATS may also pursue or defend a claim in a court that has jurisdiction over FIATS or the donor where that is required to enforce a gift or comply with U.S. law.
If a part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
